1970 Triumph Trophy TR6C 650cc. International Six Days Trial successes in the late 1940's prompted Triumph to adopt the 'Trophy' name for their off-road-styled twins, at first for the 500cc TR5 and then for the 650cc TR6, introduced for 1956. They were developed over the years becoming the TR6 (UK), TR6R (USA, sports version with low pipes) and the TR6C (USA, competition version with high pipes). The TR6C was aimed at the Californian dessert racing scene and often referred to as the 'Desert Sled'. 1970 is considered a pivotal year for Triumph motorcycle design. It was the last year of what many considered some of the greatest motorcycles ever made. The 1970 TR6C is probably one of the most rider-friendly and versatile Triumphs made in the modern era, as well as the best looking. By now the machine had twin leading shoe brakes, an Amal concentric carburettor, the trade mark BBQ grill over the silencers and was the last year before the oil in the frame. The 1970 model is highly regarded and sought after. This is a rare (possibly unique) example of a US only model bike that never left the UK. The VMCC archives show that it was built on the 8th and 9th of September in 1970 and dispatched on the 17th September to renowned Triumph trials and off-road specialists Comerfords of Surrey. It wasn't registered for the road until the 25th June 1971 so presumably it took a while to sell. MOT's from 1971 onwards show that it was used in Eastbourne in Sussex until 1986 when the mileage was recorded as 25,460. The next MOT was in 1999 in Worthing, the mileage had dropped to 1,220 reflecting the fact the bike was restored and speedo replaced. It has been used sparingly in recent years with the speedo now showing 3,800 miles. This is not a fresh restoration, but the motorcycle is in lovely rideable condition. There is slight cosmetic pitting to the wheel rims, a chip on the oil tank and chip on headlight mounting bracket that has been touched in, but overall the bike looks great. We have fitted a new battery and it's ready to ride. The bike is fitted with electronic ignition and comes with the correct rear sprocket (previous owner changed to alter the gearing), previous and current MOTs, VMCC document and the V5C; currently SORNed. This very bike was featured in Real Classics magazine, article available via this link http://www.realclassic.co.uk/tri03120900.html
